Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula Power and Water Company KSCP. is a joint stock company founded for the development of Az-Zour North One Power and Water Plant under Law 39/2010 which establishes joint stock companies to build and construct electric power and water desalination stations (IWPP). Az-Zour North One Power and Water Plant, considered the first public-private partnership, is a gas-fired combined cycle power and water desalination plant and holds five gas generators, two steam generators, and ten multiple-effect distillation units. The Plant has a net contracted power capacity of 1539.2 MW and a net water output of 107 MIGD. The operation and maintenance of the Plant will be carried out by ENGIE and Sumitomo.

Shareholder Structure

Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula for the Building, Execution, Operation, Management and Maintenance of the First Phase of Az-Zour Power Plant K.S.C. is 40% owned by a private consortium, which comprises of ENGIE, Sumitomo Corporation, and A.H. Al Sagar & Brothers. Government entities own 10% of the Company, with Kuwait Investment Authority holding 5% of shares and the Public Institution for Social Security holding another 5%. The remaining shares are currently held by KAPP on behalf of Kuwaiti citizens.

The share transfer process of Shamal Azzour Al Oula has been completed including the transfer of ownership of the 50% of the shares from KAPP to the Kuwaiti citizens whom participated in the subscription process.
